Tourism is an instrument of intercultural interaction


From the 9th to the 14th of April Odessa celebrated the fourth International tourist week. The main event was the conference "Tourism as an instrument of intercultural cooperation", which was attended by representatives of the Economy Department of the Executive Committee of Kryvyi Rih City Council and the PU “Kryvyi Rih City Development Institution”.

The deputy director of the department of tourism and resorts of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Vitalina Martynovska told about the tendencies of tourism development in Ukraine. Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Armando Pérez, called for the involvement of tourists through the expansion of the geocaching of locomotives and the organization of events of interest.


Expert of the Council of Europe Program "Intercultural Cities" Ksenia Khovanova-Rubicondi reported that people of different nationalities coexist in Odessa, and their cultures are developing freely. Member of the International Council of Amsterdam Municipalities Burns Stanvers spoke about the success of museums developing joint projects. EBRD Project Co-ordinator Denis Torchov familiarized the conference participants with the opportunities for financial support to small and medium-sized businesses.

Bright and rich were the performances by the heads of the tourism and culture departments of the cities of Thessaloniki (Greece), Warsaw (Poland), Saint-Nazaire (France) to create new monuments: submarine museums, passenger liners, the memory of the Jewish population and others. The Secretary General of the Municipality of Marrakesh (Morocco) presented his country as one of the most highly developed in Africa, which has made significant progress in the field of tourism.


With great interest the participants of the conference got acquainted with the presentation "Industrial-style weekend" presented by the Head of the Economy Department of the Executive Committee of Kryvyi Rih City Council Tetyana Pidpalko.

The tourist potential of their cities was presented by delegates from Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporozhye, Zakarpatska oblast, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kamyanets-Podilsky, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Chernihiv.

The conference discussed the prospects of organizing movie festivals, open-airs, exhibitions, joint events that will significantly increase the number of tourist services in different regions of our country, including Kryvyi Rih.
